Rajasthan Engineering Admissions: RPET Scrapped!

Chirag Barotra updated on : 08 Mar, 2020 46

The Rajasthan State Government has decided to discontinue the Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test (RPET) for admission to engineering courses from the academic session 2015-16. Engineering colleges in Rajasthan will now grant admission to B.Tech courses on the basis of scores obtained in JEE Main exam and 12th board exams.

Usually students have to appear for two entrance examinations, but by scrapping the RPET, the burden on students will minimize to a great extent.

As per the new plan, a Centralised Admission Committee (CAC) will established by the state government for supervising engineering admissions this year.

Starting 2015 academic session, the government will provide admission to engineering colleges on a normalization process which will be based on the marks attained in JEE Main 2015 and class XII.

Technical Education Minister Kalicharan Saraf said, “Under the new system, 50 percent seats of the state’s engineering colleges will be filled through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) merit list. The remaining will be filed on the basis of the class XII merit list.”

RPET used to be administered by the Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan for admission into first year undergraduate programmes leading to Bachelor's degree in different disciplines of Engineering, such as Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) in various government colleges as well as government-aided or private unaided technical institutes in the state, excluding the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani), Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MNIT Jaipur) and other deemed or private universities.

There are about 154 engineering colleges affiliated to Rajasthan Technical University (RTU). According to the new rules being implemented in Rajasthan, 70% of the total seats in Rajasthan’s engineering colleges would be reserved for Rajasthani students while 15% would be for management quota. Remaining seats would be open for all India students.

The state government has constituted a percentile formula to ensure that the Class 12th marks of the students under the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER) are at par with the scores of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students.
