The first all India common entrance test for MBBS courses for 42,000 seats will be conducted by the CBSE. Following a Supreme Court directive, the MCI has decided to hold the 1st National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduates (NEET-UG) in May 2012.

The syllabus for MMBS common test (NEET 2012) has now been released by the Medical Council of India. It has been prepared by the National Council of Education, Research and Training (NCERT) and provides details of study materials in physics, chemistry and biology. The NEET syllabus has been uploaded on the MCI website till August 11 for comments and opinions.
 
Post-Graduate programmes:
The details for NEET-PG (MD/MS) for 20,600 seats are also in the process of being drafted. The post-graduate examination is scheduled in January-February 2012 for the academic year 2012-2013. The pattern of the post graduate examination, distribution of questions across different MBBS subjects and model questions will be made available on the website in August 2011, said an MCI official.

Super-Specialty programmes:
The NEET-SS for super-specialty courses (DM/MCh) admissions across the country, is scheduled for June 2012 for 2012-2013 academic year.


The NEET would release an all India merit list as well as state-wise merit list of the eligible candidates. All candidates would be admitted only on the basis of the merit list. The common merit list of different states can be easily taken out so that reservation policies followed by various states could be applied to state common entrance merit list, officials said, adding that no candidate who failed to obtain the minimum eligibility marks would be admitted in the MBBS course.
