A day-long seminar was held at the University of Kashmir (UoK) on Saturday to commemorate the 700th birth anniversary of Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA), popularly known as Shah-i-Hamdan. The seminar was jointly organized by the Embassy of Republic of Tajikistan in India, Centre for Central Asian Studies (CCAS), University of Kashmir, and The Kashmir Society.

In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir said the teachings of Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA) are based on humanity and need to be followed in letter and spirit. He said when the revered Sufi saint arrived in Kashmir with his companions, he found the place “in darkness and beset with poverty.”

“So he took upon himself the mission of imparting Islamic teachings among people and alongside impart skill development training among the masses to help them get rid of poverty,” Prof Mir said.
