The senior school and college exam phase are almost over and it’s admission time at some of the major universities in Delhi for their undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. When it comes to studying in Delhi, most of the candidates dream to get admission in Delhi University. They eagerly wait for the DU admission process to begin and apply for the courses in multiple colleges. DU sixth cut-off list has been published and the high cut-off percentage again shattered college going dreams of many aspirants. Though DU cut-off 2020 had a marginal dip as compared to 2020, the percentage was still very high for average students to touch.

What if you can't meet DU cut-off percentage?

While a large number of candidates plan to join the University of Delhi not every candidate gets admission due to high gap between the number of seats and the applications. In such a situation, institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Ambedkar University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University For Women, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi Technological University, Jamia Hamdard and TERI University become important options for candidates. In thisarticle on the options beyond Delhi University, we look at some of these universities, their admissions processes and what they have to offer to aspirants.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU)

Expanding its reach by going online for admissions, GGSIPU offers a variety of professional courses to students from across the country. Talking about the latest change in the university’s admission procedure, GGSIPU vice chancellor Anup Singh Beniwal says, “Students can apply from anywhere. We are also expecting an increase in the number of applicants with the process going online from about two lakh last year to about 2.25 lakh this year.”

The university, which functions on the public-private model, has 111 affiliated institutes, of which 27 belong to the Delhi government and the Centre. For the first time, the university has decided to hold CETs for all regular courses.

Jamia Millia Islamia

Applicants who wish to study at JMI have a lot to look forward to this year. The university introduced 12 smart classrooms for nine faculties and three academic centres, including the AJK-Mass Communication Research Centre and Centre for Culture, Media and Governance. These ICT-enabled classrooms have interactive boards and projectors. The university is also in process of upgrading its infrastructure with additional hostels for girls, a new building for the department of English, an auditorium at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and a café near the central library, among other things.

The application window for all programmes is February 2020 to September 2020, which means that candidates must submit their applications within this period, as per the varying submission schedule mentioned in the prospectus. The university conducts entrance tests for various courses. Jamia offers as many as 51 bachelor’s programmes, which are a fine mix of science, commerce, arts and humanities.

Jamia Hamdard

Conceived as a seat of higher learning in Unani medicine, Islamic studies, biosciences, pharmacy, nursing and other areas, Jamia Hamdard has emerged as a higher education institution with distinct academic programmes. The university offers a graduate programme in IT and computer applications and PG courses in IT, computer applications, and occupational therapy, among others.

Jawaharlal Nehru University

The application process for courses at JNU goes from March to April 2020. Those who applied for the admission at JNU, sat for entrance exams which were conducted on 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th May 2020, for admission to various full-time programmes of study in 51 cities. Established in 1970, JNU is one of the prestigious universities in Delhi. After DU, this is one of the places from where students want to complete their higher education. Be it the world-class campus, excellent teachers or a wide choice of courses, the university draws attention to students for every nook and corner of the country.

Undoubtedly, getting admission in Delhi University is a dream of every student who wants to study in Delhi, but due to limited seats not all the candidates get admission here. If you are also one of them, no need to lose hope. The options except for Delhi University also offer quality education and help students build a successful career.
