Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Coimbatore was incepted in the year 10th Oct. 1955 with the jurisdiction of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Islands. The aim of the BSI is to make researches on various plant resources of the country also discovering different kind of plant breeds. BSI works very hard on searching and making surveys on different vegetable resources of the Indian regions also emphasises on preserving the existing species of plants, forest, vegetables etc. The botanical working various parts of the country and divided into four botanical regions--the East, North, West and South--with centres at Calcutta (Sibpur), Saharanpur, Bombay (Poona) and Madras, respectively. The objective of the BSI is to collect, identify and distribute materials which may be of use to educational and research institutions.
