The Department of Biosciences was inaugurated by the revered Chancellor in the year 1982. To begin with the focus was on aquaculture, which then shifted to mycology and plant pathology. In the year 1992 emphasis was also given to environmental biology. Since 2003, the primary focus has been Biotechnology.  Students at M.Sc. level are given the opportunity to do a dissertation on topics related to biotechnology and bioinformatics.
