The Department of Economics is one of the original departments of Gauhati University. The objectives of the Department of Economics is to establish the department as a centre of excellence in teaching and research in the field of Economics in particular and Social Science in general, to nurture the finest talents in Economics and capacitate them with high level of professional competence and to utilise the pool of human resource in the department in relevant fields outside the department through extension and consultancy services.
