Department has laid emphasis on literary criticism, theories of literature (both Western and Indian) and translation and reinterpretations of ancient Indian texts. Such concerted efforts have resulted in scores of scholarly publications of enduring value. In view of the fact that the Northern districts of Kerala are a treasure house of original palm-leaf manuscripts of Sanskrit and Malayalam works, the Department has collected, catalogued and preserved over 10,000 palm-leaf manuscripts. The collection is now named as Thunchan Manuscript Repository. Two catalogue volumes of this repository have been published. A few more are due soon, is offering course Master of arts in Malayalam, Master of philosophy and Doctor of philosophy.

Classroom

  • All the classrooms of the department are well furnished with all modern facilities.

Library

  • The Calicut University Library, established in 1971 and later renamed after C.H.Mohammed Koya, ( the former Minister for Education, Government of Kerala ), is primarily concerned with the conservation and dissemination of knowledge to its users. It has a collection of about ninety five thousand books and subscribes to 218 Journals and 10 Newspapers.

  • The university provides hostel facility for all departments.
