Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad was established in 1926. ISM Dhanbad is one of the premier engineering institutions of India. The origin of ISM Dhanbad can be traced to 1901 when the Indian Mines Act came into place. The Government of India in 1920 decided that the proposed institution should be an All India Institution financed by the Central Government and be named Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. In 1996-97, ISM Dhanbad was granted the status of Deemed University under the UGC Act in 1967. It is one of the most reputed universities for technological education and research in India. From its inception in 1926 the school had a national outlook. What started as an institution to impart mining education has graduated into a full fledged technical institution of international acclaim offering programs. The school has relations with reputed universities worldwide and is foraying into newer areas of academic endeavours.
