The Physics Department of the Aligarh Muslim University is one of the oldest Departments in North India.The Physics Department of the Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1912. The Department has rich tradition of teaching and research since its inception and the first Ph.D. was awarded in 1926. Eminent Scientists who at some point of time were faculty member / students of the Department are Prof. Wali Mohammad, Prof. R. Samual, Prof. P. S. Gill, Prof. R. K. Asundi, Prof. P. Venkateshwarlu, Prof. A. N. Mitra, Prof. H. S. Hans, Prof. Rais Ahmad, Prof. M. Z. R. Khan, Prof. M. L. Sehgal, Prof. M.S.Z. Chaghtai, Prof. Israr Ahmed, Prof. S. K. Singh, Prof. Tariq Aziz, Prof. Siraj Hassan, Prof. M. Sami etc.. Presently there are 9 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 16 Assistant Professors, 6 Guest Teachers and 60 Research Scholars in the Department.

Classroom

  • All the classrooms of the department are well furnished with all modern facilities.

Laboratory

  • The Department has a Computational Physics Laboratory for B.Sc. III year and Postgraduate students. There are 20 computers in this Lab.

Library

  • The Department has a Seminar Library catering more than 11000 books and 5000 bound journals. Internet and Xerox facilities are also available in the Library. There is a capacity of 75 persons.

Hostel

  • The university provide separate hostel facilities for boys and girls.
