Urology Unit was accredited as a separate unit in the Department of Surgery and it was elevated to an independent department in 1998. The department has started M. Ch. in Urology after getting recognition from MCI in year 2005 and admits two students for every year. The Government of India recognizes the department as a 'Center of Excellence' for work on male contraception. It is also recognized as a training centre for "No-Scalpel Vasectomy".
