Students enrolled in the course undergo three years of academic training in Elite School of Optometry and the final year of internship includes training in various specialties in all the branches of Sankara Nethralaya. In Australia, for example, Doctor of Optometry (OD) is now established at University of Melbourne (first intake 2011) and OD is described as 'an internationally recognised qualification and the gold standard for optometry education'.
