Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is a temple of agriculture knowledge. IARI universally known as Pusa Institute, incepted in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar) with the generous grant of 30,000 pounds from an American philanthropist, Mr. Henry Phipps. From 1905 to 1934 institute has changed their name several times but on 29th July 1936 institute was shifted to Delhi due to the destructive earth quake on 15th January 1934. Institute got its current name on Post independence, which is Indian Agricultural Research Institute. In 1958 institute gets Deemed University status under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The objective of the institute is to prepare students to become outstanding educator and Doyen in agriculture domain.
Institute has trendy classrooms which is fully air conditioned and packed with modern facilities like black boards, OHP, LCD, podium, tables and chairs. The classrooms facilities make academics’ conducive for students.
Institute has a well equipped Pesticide lab for the learners. The accredited pesticide laboratory set up under National Agricultural Technology Project (Team of Excellence), generates globally acceptable data for export certification and International trade. The pesticide laboratory is well kit out with modern facilities and managed by the highly qualified, experienced and competent team of scientists and technicians.
The library of the IARI is one of the major & well kit out agrobiological libraries in South East Asia with a infinite collection of total of 6 lakh publications including 1 lakh books/monographs, 3,50,000 journal volumes, 45,000 bulletins, 15,000 post graduate theses, 10,000 pamphlets, 30,000 news clippings, 30,000 reports, and other reference materials. The library has more than 2000 members, students, scientists and technical staff.ar.
Institute has outstanding dwelling facilities for its students. Institute has well lightened five hostels for Boys (Hemant, Vasant, Shishir, Grishm and Sharad), one for Girls (Varsha) and one Saraswati hostels. The hostels of the college are sizeable, well constructed. Each hostel mess provides scrumptious food, recreational facilities including TVs, indoor games, book shop, hair dressing saloon etc.
