The PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh is located in Sector 12 at the north end of Chandigarh. The premises of the college are at a walking distance from the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat, The grounds are 9 Km from the Chandigarh Railway station and 5 Km from the principle Bus Stand. The PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh was initially settled as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on November 9, 1921. The name of the college was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College and it begun working under the name on March 19, 1924. In the year 1931, the college got associated to Punjab University, Lahore. After the partition in 1947, the college was moved to Roorkee (India) and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word East was dropped and it came to know by its available name – Punjab Engineering College. Towards the end of December 1953, the college moved to its present place in Chandigarh to function under Govt. of Punjab. In October 2003, The Govt. of India has certified the Punjab Engineering College as a Deemed to be University and after this it known as Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University). In 2009, the Board of Governors renamed the establishment as PEC University of Technology. In 1994 this foundation was decreed the best specialized school in India by the National Foundation of Engineers.The college building is divided in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments. College has extended five new offices in the fields of Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Production Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. As of late another division of Information & Technology has been included. In the year 1957, Highway Engineering was included as the first post-graduate course in the school. Progressively other post-graduate courses were accordingly included. At present there are eleven post-graduate courses prompting Masters of Engineering degree in Highways, Structures, Hydraulics and Irrigation, Rot dynamic Machines, Electrical Power Systems, Environmental Engineering (Interdisciplinary), Electronics Metallurgical Engineering and C.I.M. Offices for post-graduate studies exist for regular and also for part time.
College has a dedicated training and placement cell to provide 100% placement assistance to students.The goal of Training & Placement Cell is to provide employment opportunities & world class training to PEC students in leading organizations. TRAINING Pre-Final year students of BE program undergo a mandatory semester long internship in leading organizations as a part of their curriculum. This enables them to get exposure in tackling live problems that occur in the working of an individual entity. These internships, along with various industrial visits keep the students informed about latest industrial trends. This is a 24 credit course, compulsory for all students where the student is evaluated both by the mentor in the Industry and a faculty advisor from the institute. The training also includes two faculty visits to the organization, both for evaluating the student and fostering Institute – Industry Interaction. The duration of the internship is minimum 16 weeks to a maximum of 24 weeks between January to June, making the student a comprehensive package for the industry. PLACEMENTS All the reputed organizations including MNCs are coming to the College for campus recruitment. To achieve its goal, the Training & Placement Cell works towards recognizing the core competencies of students. It works through a close knit organization and has a structure which conveys information to the students at the fastest possible rate. A common placement brochure for all branches is published.
