The School of Humanities and Social Sciences was started with the aim of helping the students get a deeper understanding of the pre-existing knowledge and to help them apply it in a way that future generations can benefit from this contribution.

The School has well-equipped classrooms, stellar faculty and there are regular student-teacher interactions and also events wherein reputed professionals from the field are invited to enlighten the students with their experiences and tips.

The School has collaborations with leading institutions in India and abroad that offer student and faculty exchange and dual/joint degree programs. Students are therefore exposed to latest developments in their field.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has the following departments:

1. Art Design and Performing Arts: this department believes in following a rigorous theoretical as well as a practical curriculum that will enable them to be open-minded and make them confident enough to prepare their own course of study.

2. Communication: this department recognizes the importance of filmmakers for telling effective stories which help make an impact on the society. In this regard, this department offers a unique MFA in Film and Television course.

3. Design: this department aims at enabling its students to enhance their creativity and come up with out-of-the-box ideas along with the enthusiasm to apply their ideas practically.

4. Economics: The department works with the ideology that the study of economics is important as it helps design mechanisms & policies for results that can be called efficient and valuable.

5. Education: this department believes in conducting research projects that may help shape education policies in the future. The Department the TEST (Theatre for Education and Social Transformation) program that is a PG Diploma program for working professionals.

6. English: Courses offered by this department enable the students to engage themselves in creative writing, academic writing, translation studies, gender and sexuality, Philology, Shakespeare studies, the Nineteenth Century Novel, Modernism, and Post-Modernism. Students of this Department have the opportunity to publish in as well as help edit several SNU student and faculty-led publication initiatives.

7. History: research interests of the faculty and students include fields like History of Medicine, Visual Histories, Museum Studies, History of Marginalized Communities, Social History, and Ancient Technology.

8. Sociology: this department emphasizes on analysis and interpretation of the tradition of sociology as well as social anthropology. The aim is to create awareness of the changes in the society and the importance of understanding these changes in today’s world.
