Sido Kanhu University currently known as Sido Kanhu Murmu University (S.K.M.U) was established on 10th January 1992 by an act of Bihar Legislative Assembly.  Sido Kanhu Murmu University is named after the two legendary Santhal freedom fighters, Sido Murmu and Kanhu Murmu, who led the Santhal rebellion popularly known as Santhal Hul against the exploitation of the British colonial rule in 1855 much before the First War of Independence in India in 1857. As S.K.M.U is situated in the most backward region of India mostly with the tribal population, Sido Kanhu Murmu University's main aim is to provide quality education to the poor students of Santhal Pargana with highly qualified faculty members.
