St. Xavier's College Kolkata is affiliated to Calcutta University. The college provides Bachelor and Master Degree courses. A quarter of a century before the present St Xavier’s College began in 1860 in the discarded San Souci Theatre on Park St, by the Belgian Jesuits, an international group of Jesuits commissioned by the English Jesuit Province landed in Calcutta to look after the interests of the Catholics. The team was headed by Dr Robert St Leger.

  • Class rooms are large and capable of accommodating a large number of students without cramping. They are surrounded by large spacious verandahs for students to move and breathe freely. The college stage and auditorium that you see today, has come through a historic process of evolution and gradual transformation. Library

  • The Library provides services to the students, staffs, research scholars, faculty members and Fathers of the college through an automated mode by using LIBSYS 4 (Release 5.0) software. The catalogue-search and circulation systems are fully automated at present. Search for any document can be made through Online-Public-Access-Catalogue (OPAC) and the circulation system is barcode-based. The Web-OPAC will be started shortly.

Hostel

  • This hostel is for the male students of St Xavier’s College only. It is under the management of the College. The Superintendent is directly responsible to the Principal of the College and stands in Loco Parentis to all the host elites. A student who fails without genuine reason to attend his classes will be asked to leave the Hostel. The Placement Cell of St. Xavier’s College acts as an integral link between the students and corporate organisations. St. Xavier’s College is one of the first colleges to start a Placement Cell and has facilitated placements for many students. The placement cell functions under the supervision of Mr. Aniruddha Sinha assisted by students and operates all around the year to arrange campus interviews by the companies. The Cell acts as a contact point for all companies that wish to select students from St. Xavier’s College. It facilitates the whole process from collecting the CVs of the students to organising Pre-placement talks by companies to the final induction process.
