Paleontology is the study of the history of life on Earth, as reflected in the fossil record. Fossils are the remains or traces of organisms (plants, animals, fungi, bacteria and other single-celled living things) that lived in the geological past and are preserved in the crust of the Earth. Paleontologists also frequently are involved in studies of evolutionary biology.

You should have strong background in sciences with strong concentration in both biology and geology. If you have these subjects in your 12th, you are eligible to do this course.

Paleontology is a highly specialized subject and taught at post graduate levels. Paleontology degrees are awarded by selected universities and institutes in India. The only paleontology college in India is Geological Survey of India Training Institute, Hyderabad.

In India there is no course with the name paleontology. You can start your career in Geology. To start a career in geology you need to have M.A or M.Sc in Geology. So, after graduation you can opt for these post graduation courses.

Geology is the study of the earth, its processes, materials, history, structure and effects on organisms inhabited on earth. It includes geophysics, atmospheric science, oceanography, hydrogeology, palaeontology, crystallography, geostatistics, etc. you can work as geologist, Oceanographer, etc. and many fields related to geology.
