Dear student,

The Merchant Navy is a non-combatant commercial fleet, which deals with transporting cargo and occasionally, passengers, by sea. There are many courses in Merchant Navy offered by various marine academies such as B.Sc. Nautical Science, Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nautical Science, Pre Sea Training for Deck Cadets, etc., depending on your area of expertise.

Eligibility:

• Pass 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.

• For direct entry: - if you have completed 10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), you can join as Deck Cadets and holding a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering could also join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.
