You can look at a career in finance if you think that you have good numerical aptitude and are fond of working with numbers. For HR the focus is on interpersonal and soft skills and if you think you are a people’s person and enjoy working with other people then a career in HR would be good for you. You need to make that decision for your self after looking at your set of skills, abilities and interests. There are a number of criteria you look for when selecting a good B –school. The most important indicator of the quality of the institute is the cut-off percentile for shortlisting candidates for the GD-PI round. Most CAT study websites have these rankings. Then you have to consider the campus placements, the kind of degree and programmes offered. Choosing a school with a good placement record is important. If you are looking for specialization in finance or HR you must focus on the institutes that specialize in these programmes. Other important factors to consider are the infrastructure of the institute, opportunities for doing internships, and of course the cost of the course. A MBA/PG Diploma in Management can be pursued from many institutes. Among the top MBA institutes are : the IIMs, FMS Delhi , XLRI, Jamshedpur and Bhubaneshwar, ( top institutes for HR) SP Jain Institute of Management, Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, Symbiosis, Pune, IMT Ghaziabad and others. While the CAT exam is the most sought after entrance test, other MBA entrance tests include the Management Aptitude Test (MAT), XAT for Xavier Labaour Relations Institute (XLRI) at Jamshedpur and Bhubaneshwar, and Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP), NMAT for Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies and so on.
