Hi,

The IAS, IPS, IFS officers are recruited by the Union government on the recommendation of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and posted under various State governments. All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Eligibility: graduate from a recognised university and should be between 21-30 years of age. For SC/ST candidates there is an age relaxation of 5 years.

Its syllabus comprises of two successive stages – preliminary (objective type qualifying exam) and main exam (written & interview).

Preliminary examination is a qualifying objective type examination, only the candidates who clear this can appear for the next stage called the Main examination.

Main examination is a very intensive subjective type examination in which each candidate has to select two optional subjects, apart from which all candidates have to take a General Studies, Essay and compulsory language exam.

Optional Subjects for the Main Examination: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce & Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science & International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology, Literature of one of the following languages: Arabic, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Marathi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Nepali, Oriya, Pali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
