The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts the NET exam to determine eligibility for lectureship in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession. UGC conducts NET twice a year, i.e., in the months of June and December. The notifications announcing the June and December examinations are published in the months of March and September.  You can also check out the details on the website www.ugc.ac.in. To prepare for the examination, you could consult the sample papers available on the website. There are also many books available in the market these days to prepare for the NET, which include old sample papers and information on how you should be strategising your study. Some of the books available in the market which you could refer to are Manoj Kumar and ‘A Key to Literary Forms and Terms’ by Sudhir K. Arora.
