Hi Lav, the minimum eligibility criteria for the Civil Services is graduation. If you do take up arts or commerce and for some reason, cannot become an IAS officer, do you have a Plan B in mind? Would you then, want to continue in the field of Arts or Commerce for the rest of your life? These are things that you should keep in mind while making a decision. Since you are already preparing (and hope are interested too) for IIT, why don't you continue preparing for that and use that preparation for IAS exam as well? In the end, if Civil Services do not work out for you, then you can always pursue Engineering. So, the question is, what about IAS then? Well, the good news is that you can appear for the Civil Services with Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering as your main subjects! The remaining subjects will be as per the syllabus. So, don’t worry and pursue your dreams! Good luck!
