As far as taking admission is concerned, you should ideally appear for entrance tests like JEE etc., to get a good college. Considering your situation, we suggest that you do a 1 year diploma course in any of the engineering fields, and next year, you can take a lateral admission (direct entry) to second year of B. Tech.

If the idea is to study for a year, we don’t see any point in you pursuing Chemistry (H) for one year and the leaving it mid way. However, one argument around it could be that in case you are unable to get through any of the good engineering institutes, you could continue studying in the same field (Chemistry) and pursue a career out of that.

So really, it is up to you and your preparation to decide what is the best option for you. Please weigh all your options before taking a decision. We also suggest that you should not settle for any college, as the placement and knowledge learning will not be up to the mark and hence may affect your career opportunities.
