Aircraft maintenance engineering is not a degree or a diploma course, but a training programme. On completion of the training, a licence is issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is responsible to issue Certificate of Flight Release / Maintenance in respect of aircraft, engine, instruments, electrical, radio system which certifies that the aircraft is airworthy & fit for flying.

Eligibility: -

• A pass in Higher Secondary / PUC, 10+2 with Math’s, Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 50% aggregate of any recognized University Board or any qualification recognized as equivalent by D.G.C.A. Government of India.
• A pass in Studentship examination of A.M.Ae.S.I. Or A.M.I.E. or any other equivalent exam.
• A pass in a 3 year Engineering Diploma Course of any good recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of 50%.

Eligibility for admission in Aircraft Engineering varies from each institute.

Duration: The course duration is 3 years,(6 semesters) of which 2 1/2 years (5 Semesters) is theoretical class room training with practical training followed by last 6month (VI Semester) on job training in Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO).

Those who successfully complete the training and obtain DGCA’s licence are eligible to get jobs in airports and aircraft manufacturing or maintenance firms with an attractive salary. By increasing airlines in the private sector, there will be an increase in demand for aircraft maintenance engineers and mechanics.
