Aerospace engineering involves the design, construction and science of airplanes and space vehicles. It branches into aircraft and aerospace engineering. If you thrive on mathematics and science, have an inquisitive nature, like to create things and are academically bright, then this is the path to be taken.

Aeronautical engineers perform a variety of engineering work in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles and spacecrafts. They conduct basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture and also recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques.

How to get there

One should have taken Physics, Chemistry, Maths at the 10+@ level. Then pursue a degree or diploma programme in aeronautical engineering. If a conventional college does not work out for you, go for the Aeronautical Society of India’s (ASI) Associate Membership Examination that is conducted every 6 months. This will lead to a qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering.
