Dear student,

The Merchant Navy is a non-combatant commercial fleet, which deals with transporting cargo and occasionally, passengers, by sea. There are many courses in Merchant Navy offered by various marine academies such as B.Sc./M.Sc. Nautical Science, Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nautical Science, Pre Sea Training for Deck Cadets, etc.

Minimum Eligibility for merchant navy:

• You should have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

• For direct entry: - if you have completed 10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), you can join as Deck Cadets and holding a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering could also join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer.
