Dear student,

Crime Branch is one of the branches that every State Police has their own and is usually referred as Criminal Investigation Department.

In order to join this branch, you need to join the Police Department which you may do by applying for a post, depending upon your academic qualification.

In some states, the entrance examination for recruitment of officers is conducted by the state police selection board of the particular state whereas, in other states, the entrance examination is conducted by the Public Service Commission of the state.

You can also join the CBI. There are two stages of entry: To become a Class 1 Officer, you will need to sit for the IPS exam and become and IPS officer and then migrate on to cyber. To become an assistant grade officer in CBI, you need a bachelors degree from a recognised university and then you will need to appear for Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam, conducted by the Staff selection commission every year.

The minimum eligible age, to write Combined Graduate Level Examination is 20 years whereas, the maximum age limit is 27 years with relaxation of up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC.

The examination comprises of two papers.

1. General intelligence & awareness
2. Arithmetic

The preliminary exam is followed by the Main exam.

The Main exam comprises of English language, Comprehension, Communication skill and writing ability, Arithmetic and General studies.
The application form is published in all the leading newspapers along with the "Employment News".

Note: If u want to join any other state crime branch, you can join through IPS or through State Selection procedure of respective Police Department.
