Nutrition and dietetics is a specialised field of study, generally taught in B.Sc or M.Sc programmes in several universities. Admission to the M.Sc programme is open to graduates in science, home science, chemistry, microbiology, hotel management and catering. As a B.Sc in botany, you can apply for a two-year M.Sc or a one-year PG diploma offered by several universities. These include Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, which offers an M.Sc programme in home science, in food and nutrition; Panjab University, Chandigarh; and University of Mumbai, where you can do a one-year diploma course in nutrition and dietetics. Distance-learning institutes such as Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad, and MP Bhoj University, Bhopal, too, offer the discipline. You can also consider a Master’s degrees in food sciences; M.Sc in foods, nutrition and dietetics; and M.Sc in food science and nutrition, offered at institutions across India. Usha Albuquerque
