Hi Ankita,
Biotechnology is an applied multi-disciplinary biological science; it studies the building blocks of biological existence-cells, molecules and other organisms in a logical manner to devise biological solutions. Biotechnology gives a chance to conduct breakthrough studies and to work in one of the most innovative and creative sciences. Usually students with an undergraduate degree in any biological science like microbiology, zoology, medicine pursue biotechnology at the master's level. With MNCs like Biocon, Ranbaxy and Wockhardt recruiting directly from reputed institutes there is no dearth of jobs.
With the upcoming new technologies, biotechnology covers jobs in healthcare, medicine and R&D. Since, it can be applied in various fields ranging from; agriculture to medicine, nutrition, environmental conservation, animal sciences etc, and its scope is quite wide. Since it is a scientific research oriented field, it requires the right mix of understanding of technology as well as managerial know-how. There are tremendous job opportunities in this field not just in India but also abroad.
