Civil Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year to select candidates for the prestigious all-India services which include the IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and others like Group A and Group B central jobs.

Its syllabus comprises of two successive stages – preliminary (objective type qualifying exam) and main exam (written & interview).

Preliminary examination is a qualifying objective type examination, only the candidates who clear this can appear for the next stage called the Main examination.

Main examination is a very intensive subjective type examination in which each candidate has to select two optional subjects, apart from which all candidates have to take a General Studies, Essay and compulsory language exam.
