If able to do full time study, you can make lateral entry into an engineering college to upgrade to a bachelor’s qualification. Punjab’s Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology and Delhi’s Indraprastha University offer lateral entry to the second year of their regular, full-time BE/BTech programmes, through a test.If you prefer to work, consider applying for a BE/ BTech degree programme in electrical engineering through the Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (IOE), after passing the relevant exams .A professional organisation, IOE prepares diploma-holders and working people for the Associate Membership Exam (AMIE). Considered on a par with a BE/ BTech, AMIE-qualified professionals are eligible to write the Union Public Service Commission exams, Indian Engineering Services exam, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering etc., and for private sector jobs as well. The exam has two sections. Section A is common for all AMIE (India) candidates. In Section B, you need to pick one of the given branches of engineering. As a diploma-holder from a recognised institution, you are exempt from the studentship and Section A exams, and can appear directly for the Section B exam held twice a year, in May-June and November-December.
