Your psychology, sociology, human rights and counseling qualifications suggest that you have the educational capability of getting into careers related to social work or counseling. You can take up a job in any of these fields and the experience will enable you to get some clarity on the most suitable area of work. You can start working as a social worker with urban and rural government and non-governmental agencies, special schools, family welfare agencies or international agencies. You can also volunteer with an NGO and help them in work that could range from handling educational needs of different social groups, organising communities for change, lobbying with local groups, government officials or other specialised groups, organising training programmes, creating legal and human rights awareness, and so on. On the other hand, counselors work in different kinds of settings — schools, colleges, clinics, counseling centres, welfare departments, and in private practice. There are counseling services that specialise in particular groups, for example, young people, the elderly, or for specific problems such as drug addiction, AIDS, etc. A counselor assists people in personal, family, educational, mental health, and career and related problems. Today, there is a growing need for counseling psychologists to help people with their emotional, behavioural and psychological problems. Before you take up any of these careers, gain some experience.
