Dear student,

To become a Cosmologist, you should have a good aptitude in General Physics. The basic qualification/ eligibility criteria to become a successful Cosmologist is preparing right from the start. Ensure that you have Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics in your Class XI & XII as main subjects. For graduation, you should acquire an Honours Degree in Bachelor’s in either Physics or Mathematics or a B.Tech in Astronomy (needless to say, aim for the best institutes for graduation).

Then you should acquire a Masters/ M.Tech degree (good for research work), followed by a Doctorate degree to pursue this at a high level. Just a note here, to do a Ph.D in Cosmology, you should appear for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).

After completing all of the above, you can apply for jobs in the private or public sector space organization under a senior scientist to get firsthand experience. Some of the good places that you should definitely aim to work ate Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Space Physics Laboratories, Association of Bangalore Amateur Astronomers (ABAA) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
