The career path for higher studies in biochemistry is BSc, MSc and research. A study of biochemistry can lead to many options. The fields of agriculture pharmaceuticals and environmental sciences are incomplete without a sound knowledge of biochemistry. Recent advances in biotechnology and its industrial applications have been possible only due to a thorough understanding of the underlying principles of biochemistry. Therefore, there are several fields open to students of biochemistry. As regards the school boards, both are well recognised and students from both fare well, irrespective of the study options they may choose after school. However, it is generally felt among educationists that ICSE encourages students to do research work and less rote learning, with more focus on English and writing skills than the CBSE syllabus. The CBSE syllabus is also found to be more suitable for qualifying in various competitive entrance tests, including the medical and engineering entrances. Usha Albuquerque
