If you are passionate and have perseverance, nothing is difficult, if. Dropping a year is not advisable unless you are sure of a target institute which demands such step and dedicated time by your conviction and yoru family is supportive of the decision. If you get a reasonable college now, pursuing one year and getting good score is a good idea. Some institutes allow a branch change purely based on merit and availability subject to the University rules, which could be a blessing.
