Hi, sorry if you did not hear from us earlier. Here are some of the options you can explore:

• Pharma: you can work as a Product Manager in Pharma companies, mostly in ayur companies like Dabur, Lupin and Himalaya etc. This work entails product formulations, interaction with doctors and retail pharmacies and monitoring of sales force. An added management degree in marketing and sales helps. This path leads you to career in Marketing and Sales.
• Life Sciences industry: Only BAMS may not work here, but with added knowledge of coding, knowledge of databases, some scripting language like Perl, PLSQL, you could approach lifescience industries in a pseudo dual capacity of a functional and a technical person. This is a difficult path and requires perseverance as higher preference is fordoctorates and highly qualified programmers. Other competitors for similar positions could be Biotechnologists, Bio-informatics, etc. You could work towards getting postgraduate qualifications in these subjects too.
• Healthcare IT: This is a very competent field and already has a lot of medical professionals. Your role will be that of a healthcare domain expert. Experience in working in labs, hospitals, disease coding, transcription will be helpful. This is a fast moving segment and having prior knowledge on Clinical Trials, Hospital workflow will be an added advantage.
• Insurance: Again, a simple BAMS degree is not enough for this. With a management degree, you can perform in various functions in Insurance like underwriting, networking and operations. However, you will need to upgrade yourself from time to time with insurance exams. Possible companies where some other BAMS with management qualifications are working - ING Vysya, ICICI, TTK, etc. With few years of experience you could get picked up by IT companies requiring Insurance domain experience.
• Hospital Services: Get a post graduate degree in Hospital Administration and then you can start working as a manager in some services of the hospital. Needless to say, this is again a very competitive field, so you need to be at the top notch always. After a managerial role, you can move on to managing operations and then planning and budgeting hospitals. Manipal, Apollo, Workhardt etc are some names you may look at.
• Education Services: Do a post graduation in the same field, and take the entrance exam to become a lecturer/ professor in a college.
• Clinical Trials: Some companies like P&G use BAMS doctors as investigators for their clinical trials. It is good for experience and to understand the processes that take place in Clinical Trials. Useful experience to later get into Healthcare IT.
• NGO: With post grad qualifications in Healthcare management you could work for NGO's in managing distribution of healthcare in a community. Very good option. Slowly up the ladder you could end up working for the UN or WHO also.

We will strongly recommend you to pursue higher studies (professional) after BAMS because just a graduate degree will not help you career wise in the long run. Go for a management course or Post-graduate degree, if ypu want to excel and get job satisfaction. Good luck!
