Home > Discussion > what is the difference between ba and ba (hons)?
Dear student,
There are 2 types of BA courses – B. A (pass) and B.A (h).
B.A (Pass) - will include all subjects which you may have studied in your Class XII like English, Political Science, History, Sociology etc plus a 2nd language – Hindi, Bengali, Urdu etc.
B.A (Honours) – will include specialising in a specific subject, in which you will major in. For eg., English Hons, History Hons, Geography hons. etc along with a 2nd language - Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil etc.
Ideally Honours degree is better than a Pass degree, if you want to pursue a specific career course. For post graduate professional courses too, most colleges prefer to have an Honours degree student, compared to pass degree student. Pass degree is ideal if you want to pursue UPSC etc.
Good luck!!!
