Home > Discussion > What is the scope of environment engineering
Environmental engineering is all about applying science and engineering theories to improve the natural environment (provide healthy water, air and land for human habitation (house or home) and for other organisms and remediate polluted sites). Methods of doing this include waste water management and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, radiation protection, industrial hygiene, environmental sustainability etc. Environmental engineering also includes studies on the environmental impact of proposed construction projects. Post the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, a lot of emphasis is being laid globally on environmental issues. The role of environmental engineers has assumed prime importance since then. Their prospects too have increased considerably. The scope of environmental engineering therefore spans across a wide arena of subjects. There are several divisions of the field of environmental engineering where an environmental engineer can get engaged: Environmental impact assessment and mitigation, Water supply and treatment, Wastewater conveyance and treatment, Air quality management, Hazardous waste management, Natural resource management, Solid waste management, Environmental policy and regulation development etc
