The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET ) is the first step in the process of getting admission to the 2 year long full-time Postgraduate Degree Programme in Management that are offered by the IITs. Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee offer these programmes. JMET 2012 was the last exam conducted by the IITs. Since 2011, the IITs have begun to accept CAT scores.

JMET 2016 Eligibility Criteria


Each IIT has its own management institute. The programmes on offer and the eligibility criteria vary for each. Basically candidates who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent, or a Master’s degree in any discipline can appear for the JMET examination. Students appearing for the final examinations of the above mentioned qualifying degrees can also apply.

JMET 2016 Exam Syllabus

The JMET paper has only objective type questions. Students have to mark their answer by darkening the appropriate oval on an Objective Response Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking of 25% of the allotted marks for wrong answers. This year, the paper will be 3 hours long, with 120 questions. To qualify in JMET 2011the students should  not only secure certain minimum marks in the test paper but also should necessarily obtain certain minimum marks in each of the 4 sections which are:

Verbal Communication: This section will test the candidate's comprehension of and interpretative abilities in English as a language of business specifically in common forms of English expression, grammar and usage in business.

Logical Reasoning: This section would have questions on analytical reasoning, argument analysis and analysis of explanation questions.

Quantitative Ability: This section will test the candidate’s understanding of Mathematics from the basics to Mensuration to Linear Algebra to Elementary differential calculus to Probability and Statistics.

Data Interpretation: This section would have questions with simple tables, histograms, pie charts, graphs, scatter diagrams, etc. Although involved calculations are not expected, simple data manipulations would be required.
