This IIM Calcutta Healthcare Management programme blends academic expertise and practitioners’ experiences to equip participants with the necessary managerial skills that would be helpful for them in healthcare settings. The pedagogy introduces participants to contemporary conversations across different sectors and in different regions (national and global), while creating spaces for participants to draw on their experiences as healthcare professionals. Sessions will be delivered by IIMC faculty and select experienced industry experts.
The IIM Calcutta Executive Programme in Healthcare Management is designed around three core axes.
This module provides an overview of the global and Indian healthcare landscape. regulatory and ethical issues and public policies on healthcare. The module enables the participants to develop a comparative perspective to healthcare systems as well as to understand the underlying socio-political choices in public policies on healthcare, in the specific Indian context.
Healthcare Systems in India and Abroad:
- Introduction to the characteristics of healthcare service and basic types of healthcare systems (nationalised or public health, universal social insurance, out-of-pocket, segmented etc.)
Regulatory and Ethical Issues Specific to the Healthcare Sector:
- Contract management, corporate liability in healthcare services, international trade in healthcare services etc. as well as issues of social justice in healthcare provision.
Public Policies in Healthcare:
- In different countries like India, China, Brazil etc. and trends in the Indian healthcare sector
The module covers topics such as operational aspects of hospital planning and structure, quality and accreditation, the use of data and technology in healthcare organisations and the economics of the healthcare sector that are of relevance to managers of healthcare organisations.

- Basic understanding of markets to participants, peculiarities of the market.
Health Analytics
- Cutting-edge AI applications within medicine, showcasing how AI-driven algorithms are revolutionising patient care, aiding physicians and researchers by enhancing diagnostic precision, optimising treatment plans, and fostering groundbreaking discoveries.
Entrepreneurship in the Healthcare Sector
- Possibilities of an entrepreneurial method, startup incubation, and contemporary developments

This module provides exposure to knowledge of a breadth of functional management domains such as marketing, organisational design, strategic management, human resources management, leadership, conflict and negotiation, operations management, accounting, and finance. Participants will explore how foundational management principles from these functional domains can be applied in the healthcare sector.
Marketing Strategies
- Basic concepts in marketing strategies, including branding, customer-centricity, and digital marketing
Strategic Organisation
- Organisational effectiveness, understand elements of organization design, effective organizational change management, and alignment of organizational activities.
Managing People
- Introduces participants to elements of organisational behaviour, and explores leadership capacity building, conflict and negotiation.
Operational Excellence
- Fundamentals of Operations management like optimisation, constraint and inventory management etc.
Project Management
- Phases of project lifecycles, and the best practices and tools available focuses on project planning including project scope management, scheduling, risk management, project monitoring and control.
Financial Statement Analysis and Financial Management
- Financial reporting framework, understanding of income, cash flow, balance sheet statements and different types of analyses of financial statements (ratio, trend, DuPont etc,). financial decision-making of firms, an understanding of risk, return and risk-return trade-offs and different modes of financing expansion of firms (debt, equity etc.) and their associated costs.
Communication Skills
- Internal and external stakeholder communications through elements of narrative and storytelling
Statistics
- Introduction to data types, and concepts of population, sample, overview of estimation, hypothesis testing and linear regression.
- This component engages participants in teams on projects that are of their specific interest. This project complements classroom sessions and allows participants to draw on multiple tools and concepts learned across modules.
